Frequently Asked Questions

Won’t concrete stain?

Just like granite and marble, concrete is a porous material and will stain without being properly sealed. The sealer used by Vieck Concrete Studio is a professional grade sealer, specifically designed for concrete countertops. It has excellent stain, acid, abrasion and scratch resistance. It’s also food safe and non-toxic – Complies with FDA guidelines.

How often will I need to reseal?

The professional grade sealer used by Vieck Concrete Studio should not need to be resealed under ordinary use and will keep your concrete looking stunning for years to come.

Will it crack?

We use the best quality ingredients and techniques in our concrete. Fine grain sand, high quality cement and an additive called a polymer is also used. The polymer helps add extra strength to provide the superior performance you should expect for your investment. You should never experience a structural crack.

How to do care and maintain my countertops?

Cleaning and care for your countertop the same as any other countertop. The professional sealer used is designed to withstand your everyday spills and messes. Damp cloths, mild detergents and other water-based cleansers with neutral pH are all that are needed. Examples are 409, Fantastik, Windex, and Simple Green. Vinegar, bleach and bleach-based cleansers are acceptable.

Products that contain acid would be the hardest on your countertop, things like wine, tomatoes, and fruit juices (lime, lemons, etc). These should always be cleaned up as soon as possible.

Your countertop should never be used as a cutting board. Concrete is a tough product, but you could possibly cut through the sealer, leaving it open for staining. Also, you will severely dull your cutting knife.

Can I place hot pots and pans on my countertop?

Even though the sealer is very heat resistant, the underlying concrete may discolor or microcrack if exposed to high heat. A microcrack might not be visible but could compromise the sealer and allow staining. As with almost all types of countertop surfaces, you should still use hot pads or trivets.

Isn’t concrete heavy? Do my cabinets need reinforced?

The technique used for our countertops, allows the weight to be comparable to granite. Our countertops are made off-site and then delivered to you and installed just like granite and other countertops.
